Kitchen door - Howard Slatkin Grand Openings

January 22, 2014

Entering into Mr. Howard Slatkin’s 5th Ave apartment was like entering into a maze, or maybe like finding myself in Alice in Wonderland. Dujour magazine sent me there to take pictures of all his doors, and I truly enjoyed getting lost in his place. It was surprising how many doors he actually had in there, a few of which were disguised as walls. There was a hidden hallway door to a dozens of wine bottles which light s up as you open the door. There was a shower door (and shower, of course) specifically made for his dog Winnie who doesn’t really like to walk around the city but when she does, she uses the shower. A door for various electric panels all hidden beneath the decorative wall papered door. And my favorite was a hidden hallway door that led to a room with dozens of wine bottles which all lit up as you entered. I admire the love and passion that went into creating the space. There was no dust accumulating on his many seashell displays, which i can only assume is because of Dina(pictured here), who kept giving us delicious treats, one of them was a silver plate full of delicate tea sandwiches drizzled with raspberry sauce. I named it “wonder cake” since I have no idea what it actually was. Thank you so much Mr.Slatkin for having us at your amazing home. You can see more pictures here.
